Distribution:

From the Himalaya (Bhutan, Nepal, Northern India) via southern China to Thailand

Wingspan:

around 12  to 14 cm, in captivity often smaller

Season:

In captivity more or less continuously when kept warm, with minimum 2 flights annually

Food plants:

Carpinus, Liquidambar. Does not accept oaks.

Rearing:

Rather difficult and somewhat sensitive creatures. They seem to grow better on Carpinus. Keep warm, clean and in well ventilated and spacious containers. Do not overcrowd. Especially the final instar does not tolerate company very well. Relatively fast growing (ready to pupate within approximately one month). The pupal stage is short, however some of the autumn flight can overwinter when kept in an unheated room (frost free).

Difficulties:

not for newcomers, requires very clean conditions
