Distribution:

from central Mexico (Hidalgo, Federal District) south to Belize and Guatemala

Wingspan:

In between 4 and 6,5 cm

Season:

one to two flights annually (usually April/May and August/September, depending on local conditions). Pupae overwinter

Food plants:

Quercus preferred, alternatively also Castanea

Rearing:

Not difficult, however offspring from the second flight slower growing and slightly more difficult probably because of the lesser quality of the food. Keep warm (minimum room temperature) and clean. Rear in spacious, well ventilated plastic containers. Avoid condensation. Fast growing. Ready to pupate within 4 to 6 weeks (depending on temperature and quality of the food, in autumn slower). Pupae overwinter in a cool, unheated room (frost free).
