the Russian Far East, a former artemis subspecies (synonym = sjoqvisti)
around 10 centimeter (males have longer hind wing tales and are a bit smaller)
at least two flights when kept warm. Pupae overwinter.
Alnus and Liquidambar preferred, sometimes (but not always!) Salix and Juglans
Once settled, an easy species, suitable for newcomers. Keep warm and clean, in well ventilated plastic containers (just watch out for condensation). Fast growing and ready to pupate within 4 to 5 weeks. The pupal stage in between flights is short (approximately 2 to 3 weeks). The warmer the faster they develop. Cocoons after the last flight in autumn can overwinter in the fridge.
