Phiala species Malawi

Distribution:

A common species in the Dzalanyama Forest (Malawi). I have no exact ID of the species.

Wingspan:

large for a Phiala, around five centimeter with little difference between males and females

Season:

only one annual flight

Food plants:

Carex pendula is well accepted in captivity, however young leaves should be given to the first caterpillars stages, older leaves might be too hard

Rearing:

easy but slow. Eggs hatch after one month. Caterpillars need three to four months to grow. The pupal stage is also approximately four months. The adults will emerge in autumn. Keep warm and dry, in well ventilated plastic containers

Difficulties:

None
