Sphinx pinastri

 

 

Distribution:

hroughout the entire Palearctic region and has been released into the wild in the USA

Wingspan:

in between 7 and 9 cm. 

Season:

usually only one flight from June to August, sometimes a (partial) second flight 

Food plants:

Pinus, sometimes Picea

Rearing:

Less easy then the average Sphinx. Keep early stages in well ventilated plastic containers and move to a netted cage when older.. Keep warm, clean and very dry.  Do not overcrowd, they do not tolerate company very well. Fast growing and ready to pupate in less then  four weeks. Keep the pupae in the fridge to overwinter.
