Sphinx

 

The 32 Sphinx species are medium to large sized hawk moths occurring in the northern hemisphere. It is a diverse genus, not in appearance, but in the use of food plants. Many feed on Fraxinus or Ligustrum, however just as many need need Rosaceae or even Pinaceae. Before starting a brood check carefully what plants are suitable. It will keep your young caterpillars alive. Most species in this genus have quite the appetite. Make sure you have plenty of food.
