Hippotion is a large genus of approximately 41 species, closely related to Theretra. The members occur mainly in Asia and Africa, with one in Europe (and sometimes some migrants from other species). They are medium sized moths, usually quite colorful even though some unattractive drab brown or grey species exist.

The rearing is in general quite easy. Many species are fairly polyphage  though with a preference for Onagraceae, Lythraceae, Impatiens, Araceae, Vitaceae and/or Rubiaceae.
