Antheraea jana

Distribution:

Indonesia (Java)

Wingspan:

around 10 to 13 cm

Season:

continuously

Food plants:

Carpinus (best), Ligustrum ovalifolium (accepted), Quercus robur (very high mortality). In general most plants are poorly accepted and many caterpillars die in the 1st & 2nd instar

Rearing:

A difficult species, not suitable for newcomers. Keep warm and dry, in spacious well ventilated plastic containers.  Growth can be slow (7 weeks) but most likely this is a result of the poorly accepted food plants. This species does not diapause.

Difficulties:

getting young caterpillars to eat properly
