Anisota

The 19 Anisota species occur in North and Central America. This genus belongs in the Ceratocampinae subfamily and the species are thus smaller relatives of for example Eacles and Citheronia. The North American species are fairly easy to identify, however in Mexico it gets more complicated, with quite many similar looking species. The caterpillars often help correctly identifying a species.

The rearing is easy for most species. The preferred food plants are oaks (Quercus).
