Actias sinensis

Distribution:

China

Wingspan:

around 12 centimeter

Season:

multiple flights. Continuously when kept warm

Food plants:

Liquidambar. They can sometimes be persuaded to accept Eucalyptus gunnii but will not always do well on it (only use when no Liquidambar is available)

Rearing:

An easy species when kept at room temperature and clean, in well ventilated plastic containers or netted cages when older. Fast growing and ready to pupate within 4 weeks. The pupal stage in between flights is short (approximately 3  weeks). The warmer the faster they develop. Pupae after the last flight in autumn can be overwintered frost free in a very cool, unheated room. The fridge is not recommended.

Difficulties:

preventing the adults from emerging late autumn or in winter when temperatures are too warm
