Distribution:

from Canada into Mexico

Wingspan:

in between 10 and 12 cm

Season:

one to multiple flights (when kept warm). Pupae overwinter.

Food plants:

Juglans, Carya and Liquidambar preferred. Depending on origin of the stock sometimes (but most certainly not always) also Betula, Salix or Rhus

Rearing:

A very easy species, suitable for newcomers and children. Keep above 18°C and clean, in well ventilated plastic containers (just watch out for condensation).  Fast growing and ready to pupate within 4 weeks. The pupal stage in between flights is short (approximately 2 to 3  weeks). The warmer the faster they develop. Cocoons after the last flight in autumn can overwinter in the fridge.
