Gonometa titan

Distribution:

from Ivory Coast to the Central African Republic, south to at least Gabon. The exact distribution still needs to be determined, but probably mainly West and Central Africa. The animals depicted here are from Cameroon (Obout village)

Wingspan:

females up to 14 cm, males much smaller. In captivity often smaller.

Season:

in captivity continuously

Food plants:

Eucalyptus, Pinus

Rearing:

An easy but slow growing species. Caterpillars can grow to a length of 17 cm and will pupate in approximately 5 months. The moths appear fairly quick, under the proper circumstances (warm with a somewhat higher humidity) already after four weeks. Keep the first instars in well ventilated plastic containers, but move to netted cages when larger. Wear gloves when handling the caterpillars and cocoons, the hairs will get stuck in your skin and can cause some serious irritation.
